He’d told everyone he had plans for the holiday, and for once it was true. Jim stocked up on supplies, feeling a surge of warm anticipation, and carried his prizes home.
Dolores and her sister kept the place nice, and Jim spent a while decorating, stringing lights for the first time in years and setting out a couple of poinsettias from Desert Blooms. The tree was already decorated and waiting.
He had just opened the eggnog when the doorbell rang. Jim couldn’t help smiling as he swung the door wide. “Hello, Annie.”
She grinned, and stepped in to kiss him.
