Day eleven

All of us but Dad went to the Aix markets today; he was tired so he stayed home.

The markets of stuff were not terribly exciting--some of the same vendors as IlĂȘ-sur-le-Sorgue. No Queen album here either, alas. The food markets were impressive, with much luscious produce, but since we're leaving soon there wasn't much point in buying any. Though my brother did enjoy his apple very much.

..........

We met Anne the rental lady for lunch--she has an apartment in the center of town, and in fact when my brother called her she told him to turn around--and there she was across the square, waving from her balcony. Her building dates from the 1700s, I think, and she's remodeling the very small flat. She fed us olives, tomatoes and basil in oil, chicken and potatoes, and strawberries, then took us to see the Aix cathedral. A very high-energy lady. We met her youngest son, a nice polite kid. Fortunately, I didn't have to kiss him.

..........

After the cathedral we did a bit of shopping, and I found the apron I'd passed by earlier! Mom got some fancy lace curtains.

Anne said goodbye and we went on to a santone shop--little clay figurines that are used to create very elaborate creches. Another regional thing. Mom adores them and they were one of her focal points for the trip.

Lamb for dinner, yum. I went out in the moony dark to try to find my tom friend; he wouldn't stop for me, but a long-furred queen did. Then a big black dog came near and I left--he didn't seem friendly somehow.
