I'm told that if one wishes to keep cut apples from browning, covering them in lemon juice will protect them.

Apparently, if you don't have lemon juice, lemonade will do just fine.

HAHA! Would never have considered lemonade. LIme juice yeah. Lemonade?

I didn't even think of lime juice. But then what I have is frozen anyway.

Lemon-lime soda apparently works well too. :)

Yep - it's the acidity!
Same reason acidified rice at oriental places in theory doesn't need to be refrigerated if pH is <4.1. /nerdiness

:P

This is the funniest and lovliest post ever :-) not only because of your icon.

Well, you can use White balsamic vinegar as well. It don´t taste that good anymore but the apple isn´t brown.

Hugs, heike

I didn't know that either! I don't think I have any, though. Huh, maybe apple-cider vinegar? :D

Or dissolve a vitamin C tablet in water. (I think that's basically what the commercial dip is.) Or course, the real question is why wouldn't you have any lemons on hand, asks the lemon fanatic.

Because I'd never use them all before they went bad, replies the lazy not-cook.

Would a multi-vitamin work? :P
