Quick research question

I did look it up, but clinical descriptions are lacking.  Have any of you, gentle readers, experienced an ovarian cyst, and are you willing to describe the event?  I don't need a lot of detail, just an impression of what it was like.

Thanks!!

It was like having the army core of engineers redesign my reproductive system from the inside out. And they brough tanks.

Yeah, that's definitely evocative! *winces* Thanks.

Ovarian cysts...ugh. I hope you don't have one. They are just downright nasty.

I've had a few go and burst on me over the last 10 years - every time it feels worse than labor, worse than a kidney stone. And they always sneak up on you...at least mine do.

Yikes. Scary! Thanks for the info.

One word... PAIN! Like no other.

Definitive! Thank you.

Years ago, a friend of mine had a cyst rupture and cause an infection. Within a day, she was no longer capable of walking because she'd been so violently ill she lost enough electrolytes that she had no muscle control left. She was in the hospital for about 10 days and required surgery to repair the damage. Her descriptions of the pain match what others have said.

That's the extreme end of it. (And the inspiration for Pax Vobiscum.)

Wow. Thanks! Seriously impressive, for lack of a better word.

Oh yikes. Are you OK?

[identity profile] vr-trakowski.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, I'm fine! :D How about you? You've been so quiet...

[identity profile] laura27md.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Whew... you were just asking about this stuff for a fic, then?

I'm fine, just quiet. ;) And work has suddenly exploded with business... (which is good, in a way)

Stabbing sharp cramping pain from hell. *grimace* My sister gets them a lot; I've only ever had one, I think.

Specific, good! Thank you.

Is it weird of me to be chuckling about the dramatic difference in pain-level-statement between my comment and all the others here? Looks like my pain tolerance has grown way too high =P

insert red hot poker in abdomen right above hip bone. twist-jab.

Ah! Yes, very clear. Thanks!

Unfortunately, my experience was very much like [livejournal.com profile] inalichenmanner's friend. Malaise, pain, surgery and high powered antibiotics. Twice.

Whew. At that point I'd want to just get rid of the things. Thank you!
