Aug. 14th, 2007 10:19 pmYesterday I looked out the window of a paused bus and caught sight of a tree browning from the heat and drought. Its green leaves were edged with tan, a pretty pattern for all its dire implications, and they were moving with the hot wind that passed through them, a constant rattle and rustle. The sun was bright on them--yesterday wasn't so humid, for a wonder--and all of a sudden I had a longing for a place I've never been.
Somewhere tropical, all brilliant blue and intense sun, with a warm ocean curling gently nearby and the sea wind unstopping. There were people moving in my vision, folks with purpose, and the wind brought energy instead of sapping it, and the sea was never far away.
I've never set foot into a truly warm ocean.
