Happy 4th! To those in the U.S. that is.
Jul. 4th, 2010 10:01 pmI admit that my apartment is less than ideal in many ways, but one of the positive aspects is that I can walk out the front door and across a few yards of lawn and sidewalk, and watch an excellent fireworks display without having to fight crowds or traffic, or even bring earplugs. Many of the residents of my apartment complex come out to watch.
When I was little--and I am old enough to remember the Bicentennial fireworks, if barely (ground displays, wow!)--the glowstick style of toy became available, and was hawked at fireworks gatherings. I love things that light up, and I wanted them badly, but they were not on my parents' list of things on which they would spend money.
Now that I am grown, and the "bracelets" are cheap, I buy a tube or two and give them away to the kids who gather to watch the fireworks, just because I can--though I save a few blue ones to make myself a necklace. :P It gives me more pleasure than the fireworks themselves, really, though I don't know why.
If you're not in the U.S., I hope your Sunday was wonderful!
