I ran into someone I used to know tonight. We worked in the same office at my previous job--she was my mentor when I first got there--and we were the sort of acquaintances who are friendly as long as we worked together, but the moment one of us left the relationship dissolved. Not superficial or regretful, just based on work.
She looked exactly the same. Yes, it's only been...hmmm...a little over six years, but they seem to have left her untouched. Can't say the same for me, but she liked the haircut. :P
It was good to see her, and to hear about her boss, who was still one of the best bosses I've ever had. I'll admit I've wondered more about him than her over the years, but that makes sense.
It wasn't entirely comfortable, talking with her, though I can't say exactly why. The memories aren't bad; maybe it's just that it is so firmly past to me that I am uneasy at bringing that time to the surface again.
But I was the one who spoke to her. So.
