Silly but fun
May. 19th, 2011 11:45 pmI know nothing about J-pop, but the other day I saw a YouTube video of Hatsune Miku live. It's a hologram of sorts, with an electronic voice (sampled from a live woman), that can perform with a live band, singing and dancing on stage. It doesn't look like a real person (though the headset mike is a nice touch) but it's not supposed to--and it does move and sound like one.
Apparently they've been around for a few years, so perhaps I'm the only one who's never seen the things before. But I am fascinated by them. This is what 3D tech should look like--something you can walk around, the Millennium Falcon chess game sharpened and writ large. This is the future I've been reading about all my life.
I do wonder what the musicians think of performing with something like that.
