Weirdness abounds
Jan. 13th, 2010 10:13 amLast evening when I got on the first bus for home, I pulled out my iPod (Classic, not a Touch) and put my earbuds in my ears. They're kind of sound-blocking, but not so that I can't pick up noise around me. As I moved the plug of the earbuds towards the jack on my iPod, I heard music. I recognized the tune as one I had on my iPod, but I hadn't hit Play and it took another second to get the plug into the jack.
I was confused. When I looked at the iPod I realized it seemed to be playing despite the fact that I hadn't actually started it, but it's elderly and sometimes acts up; I'd just switched off the lock, which booted it up, and maybe it hiccuped. As it happened, the song on the screen wasn't the one I heard; I hit the Back button and it started to play the one on the screen from the beginning, replacing the one I was hearing. When I hit the Forward button the next song was in fact the one I had heard, but there's no way I could know it was coming up because the Shuffle function was on (always is for that playlist).
All this sounds complicated, but it took less than thirty seconds.
I have no explanation for how I could hear the song--clearly--even though I hadn't plugged my earbuds IN. A Classic iPod has no speakers of any kind, and while there's a remote possibility that someone else on the bus was using that particular song as a ringtone (highly unlikely, believe me), I still wouldn't have been able to hear it so well since I had the earbuds in my ears already.
I've been known to be slightly psychic, but usually only involving books and the occasional phone call, and even that's slacked off lately. And while I used to hear music in my head at my old job, it was always elaborate symphonies and I had to be in the right kind of focused state. This...doesn't fit.
I think I'm with Hamlet on this one.

Date: 2010-01-13 03:17 pm (UTC)I had some strange things happen to me with the iPod Classic too. It would beep at me when it was off... and I don't think the damn thing had the FUNCTION to beep.
Then again, I'd dropped the damn thing so many times, maybe I caused it to mutate and come to life...
Still... your story... weird.

Date: 2010-01-13 07:05 pm (UTC)Just as my question: How was the weather when it happened? My iPod, it´s an old one too, sometimes developes a life of its own when it´s very cold outside (I use it while running) or very humid.
On the other hand: I would so like to believe you got a message from...somewhere ;-)
