Belated linkage

vr_trakowskiI meant to put this in the author's notes for Down to Sleep, but totally forgot. :P In Chapter 9, Ronnie (the Second) brings Sara a journal article that announces a way to extract mitochondrial DNA from hair. It's not relevant to the case, really, but the news intrigued me enough that I wanted to mention it. Until recently, hair was thought to be just about devoid of cells unless the root was still attached, but it turns out that the core of a strand of hair contains plenty.
Given all the CSI stories, canon and fan, that balance on such details, I found the news interesting. The link isn't to the journal article itself, but someone discussing it, and what further delights me is the mention of something else--cloning extinct animals. The hair DNA is apparently much purer than that found in tissue samples and would be easier to work with.
