Fandom: Inception
Prompt: the natural world
Ariadne loves France, but the glitter of December makes her unexpectedly homesick. Exams are finished, and she needs to relax, so she’s left Paris’ lights behind and taken the train to somewhere quieter.
Now she walks beneath ancient firs that keep their own counsel, the snow icing their outer branches in lacings as frosty as her breath. The fallen needles are soft beneath her boots, and she is all alone. Here in the trees’ cathedral, Ariadne hears the measured tread of Christmas coming, solemn, joyful.
The woods were God’s first temples. She hums The Holly and the Ivy, and smiles.
(Ariadne is misquoting William Cullen Bryant's A Forest Hymn.)
