vr_trakowski: (moral imperative)

I'm sleeeepy after staying up too late to watch the election results (and glee about it afterwards) last night.  So a few minutes ago I went out to the gas station in front of my apartment building to buy a Coke.

The man behind the counter, who I think is originally from the Middle East, was talking to a black customer whose accent hinted at the Caribbean.  The cashier was congratulating the customer on making history last night.  The customer thanked him, saying that he did his part in voting, and going on to mention how happy people in other nations seemed to be with Obama's win.  They were both happy and enthused, and I could only agree with them as I paid for my drink.

"Only in America," the cashier kept saying.  But I hope that's not true.

Yeah, we made history.  Now we gotta make it the future too.

I wish I could have heard Obama's acceptance speech. It would be great if last night could be a catalyst for greater changes, the future... it has me a little nervous at the moment. I can't claim to have a lot of faith in my fellow man, except for disappointment, especially when it comes to rational behavior.

There are transcripts and videos online...I didn't listen to the whole thing myself. Well, you and Catherine--expect the worst and you're never disappointed, and sometimes you're pleasantly surprised! :D

I don't expect the worst, but I can't help but be surprised by what some people consider acceptable. Pessimism isn't something I'm familiar with, it goes against my nature. Maybe it's just the election process and all the negative crap thrown at us. The unrelenting BS that you have to wade through. BAH! I don't sound it but I'm very excited and thrilled to have been a part of the reason we have a black man as our new president. *Raises a toast with my herbal tea*

I try to avoid politics as a rule because it's just so depressing. This was an exception! I really wish a candidate would have the guts to disavow negative ads, though. The mudslinging gets old VERY fast.

Here's hoping for better days! *returns toast*
