Is that the one that looks like a poster from Cabaret, with dark glasses, hat tilted at a rakish angle, pall of curling pipe smoke, and harsh contrast? Sort of "Sherlock Holmes vs. the Weimar Republic"?
Yeah, it gave me the mental image of Holmes, disguised as Sally Bowles, meeting the Emcee from Cabaret... I'll still have to see the movie - I mean, really, RDJ *and* Jude Law? - but I'll go with as few expectations as I can manage :-)
Normally I love scruffy hot men. But Holmes should not be scruffy-hot. Occasionally scruffy. But only when disguised, and not scruffy-hot. You know who should play Holmes? Leonard Nimoy, that's who. (A younger Leonard Nimoy, probably, unfortunately. But he'd've been marvelous.)
Oh, I agree, and I'm someone who likes the RLK books far more than the original (Language of Bees! End of the month!!). But I'm going for the amusement factor, and also Mr. Downey is an excellent actor. And to share with friends!
In their defense, if it is one, I think they're "reimagining" and starting with a very young Holmes. Guess we'll see if it works.
