Because [personal profile] cincoflex asked...

1--Total volume of music files on my computer:

Er…somewhere in the neighborhood of 20G, maybe? I don’t know for sure, because I’m at work at the moment, but I’m running out of room on my poor old laptop. Though quite a few of those are books on CD.

2--Last CD I bought:

The soundtrack to “The Last Unicorn”, for a friend.

3--Playing right now:

Nothin’ but doors closing.
4--Five songs that mean a lot to me:

Um, how to choose?

The Cal Berkeley Drinking Song, because I’ve been hearing it all my life and can sing it all--the ’63 version, that is. They’ve added some since.

Julia Ecklar’s “I Hate Little Firelizards”. Even though I don’t. *snerrrrrk*

Gonzo’s “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday”. Forget “The Rainbow Connection”--this is the Muppet song I love.

Nichole Nordeman’s “Every Season” always gives me lovely chills.

Cleo Laine and John Dankworth doing the “Turkish Delight” duet on the “Cleo at Carnegie: the 10th Anniversary” album. I’ve heard it live, which was an ecstasy, but this one is still my favorite, in part because it’s so much fun to hear the audience react. And now I have it on CD!

5--Five songs that can make me cry:

They don’t, generally. Maybe when I first hear one it’ll make me a little stuffy, but not on subsequent listenings. Probably the last one to get me was “Into the West” from “The Return of the King”.

6--My top TV soundtracks are:

Firefly, Beauty and the Beast: Of Love and Hope (now available on CD, folks! Go buy!), and CSI (just the instrumental bits). That’s all I have. Movies, now…

7--How I discover good music:

These days? Podcasts, mostly. Occasionally a rec from a friend, even more occasionally something I hear on the radio. Mostly I end up buying soundtracks, or new albums by artists I already listen to.

8--Tagging:

No one! Do it if you like. *grin*

I've seen this one going around, and it amuses me, so...

Open up your media player. Load up all your MP3s. Set it to random. List the first 20 songs that play. No cheating. Bold the one you find the most embarassing (if there is one). Italicise your favourite. Underline your least favourite. Post your list in your journal so others can mock and scorn and laugh.

I had to go through about 55, actually, skipping over the books on CD and the Podcasts because those rather miss the point.

Hearne, Clannad, Legend

The Great Adventure, Steven Curtis Chapman, The Live Adventure

Dancing Light/Sonnet XXIX, Lee Holdridge & Ron Perlman, Beauty and the Beast: Of Love and Hope

Never Give All the Heart, The Chieftains with Brenda Fricker, Tears of Stone

I’m Happy Just to Dance With You, The Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night

Jambalaya, Hank Williams, Sr., The Complete Hank Williams

The Maker of Noses, Rich Mullins, The World as Best as I Remember It, Vol. 2

The Musical Priest, the Queen of May, The Chieftains, The Chieftains

All the Way to Kingdom Come, Rich Mullins, The Jesus Record (Demos)

All the Stars, Sandi Patty, LeVoyage

Hallelujah, Mannheim Steamroller, Christmas Extraordinaire

Quartz Shipment, Sinfonia of London Orchestra, Stargate

The B-52, Bad Haggis, Trip

Samwise the Brave, Howard Shore, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Minuette, Preston Pisellini, Relaxation

I can't really pick a favorite or least favorite out of this lot.  I loathe the Beatles generally, but that one and the Hank Williams are part of my quest to collect the "soundtrack" to Emma Bull's excellent War for the Oaks.  Once I have them all, I will listen to them, then probably dump some again.

I do find it interesting that out of 7073 entries in my "song" list, Stargate came up twice...

I watched last night's CSI:Miami tonight, and found the casefile chaotic. I like a nice complex one, but it was sort of jerky, lurching from conclusion to conclusion, and with a few obvious leaps and holes. Like, Horatio, if you see blood on the wall and furniture of a woman's house, aren't you--as a public servant and a compassionate man--just about OBLIGED to check the building to see if she's still there and in need of help? And that goes for you too, Tripp.

Okay, maybe he did, but it sure didn't look like it. I still think Calleigh wears too much makeup but I could watch the woman for the entire show just for the aesthetics of her.

I do wonder, though, if only the rich and beautiful get into trouble in Vegas. Well, "beautiful" for prime-time TV values of beautiful. Honestly, when's the last time CSI:M showed a home that wasn't something out of a designer magazine? It makes me suspect that the Florida Housing Board has a stake in the show or some such. (No, I have no idea if such an organization actually exists.) And nobody ugly, or even nicely normal, ever seems to get involved in anything. Seriously, there have to be a few somewhere there, even if Miami is a haven for fluffy people. I can understand the desire to make the show attractive to the viewers, but bikinis ad nauseum does get a little tiresome.

Besides, parity would be nice. Like guys in Speedos, for instance. If the women are going to show off that much, the men should too. Never mind that I think Speedos only belong on competitive water athletes--there's such a thing as equal time.

Oh well. It would be fun to do a Ghost Whisperer/CSI:M crossover, just to watch the universe implode...
