“It just surprises me, is all,” Sofia said, examining the Rec Deck’s sparkling tree thoughtfully. “I mean, this is the future.”

Leonard chuckled. “One future,” he corrected. “And why should we give faith up? Darlin’, let me tell you, seeing the stars for the first time just shows how great are the works of His hands.”

Sofia cocked her head, half-shy, half-amused. “I guess,” she said. “But I feel bad. I don’t have a present for you.”

Leonard took her hand. “Ah. You gave me one already.” At her inquiring look, he smiled. “You had faith in me.”

Great story! The original always handled religion in a far more balanced and realistic manner than TNG ever did.
