I have only just begun reading the novelization of Iron Man 2, but so far it is substantially better than the last one, even as it deviates widely from what was shown on screen.  It's also extremely funny in places.  I'm treating it like more than decent fanfiction, if you will.

To wit: Tony was in some ways a delicate flower.  Pepper had learned to keep him watered and positioned so the sun hit him in the right ways.  How can you not love that?  XD

Hee! I'm so excited! I have this waiting for me at the post office, whenever I can get off my rear and walk over. And I'm glad to hear that it's at least fun!

So far so good...I haven't got too far yet, though. Vanko's presented well--and the bird's a girl!

So would recommend it as a decent fandom read then? Never read the first one, didn't know it even existed!

At the moment, yes...I may change my mind later!

The first one is...eh. About the usual for a movie novelization, with a slight twist on the T/P relationship at the end that wasn't positive.

Uhm... I actually liked more the first one. ;)
I think it deepened better the characters... and I loved all the Tony/Pepper parts in it, though, as you said, the very last one was a little bittersweet.
The second one... well, it seems like it just describes scenes... or at least that's the general idea that gave me when I read it. Though, I have to say, the last part was so MUCH better than the movie! ;) When you get there, you'll see it. I think that, especially for us, it made so much more sense! :)

Huh, you know, I liked the movie version better--but I may have just been distracted by how far they were apart. I'm not sure Tony would have done what he did when presented with the hostage situation, so to speak.

Nevertheless, it was fun to read!

Oooh, that's really interesting! What do you think would have been more in character for Tony to do in that situation?

I'm not sure, but immediately climbing out of his armor strikes me as a bit false. This is a guy who's been through quite a bit. Just hopping out--and trusting Venko--rather than trying to negotiate or attack doesn't sound like Tony to me.

*shrug* Your mileage may vary, of course.
