So I bought a container of croissants on sale, but they aren't very good croissants.  So, thinks I, why not make bread pudding with them?

Note: I have never made bread pudding in my life.  In fact, I think I've only eaten bread pudding twice.

However, nothing ventured, etc.  I looked up a few recipes online, noted baking time and temperature, and winged it.  I tore up enough croissants to half-fill the baking dish, dumped two eggs, a generous amount of sugar, and some cinnamon and nutmeg and vanilla into a pint of heavy cream (it's not a full-sized baking dish) and whisked it up, and let it soak a bit.  And on impulse, I sliced up some peaches and dumped those in too.  And baked it until it looked done.

It's fabulous.

I have no idea why my weird-ass impulse has generated a win.  But it's a very tasty win.  Now I'm thinking about repeating the experience, except with shredded cheese and bacon bits...and maybe some minced onion...

...I need more heavy cream.

You should also try it with dark chocolate chips. I had bread pudding with dark chocolate once and it was out of this world good. Gosh, now I'm craving bread pudding!

I've used this recipe for Peach Bread Pudding, using mixed home-canned peaches and nectarines, and it is good. The fruit adds something to it.

Hmm, have a graduation party to go to next weekend. I think I know what I'm taking.

Oh, wow...caramel sauce too...

Home-canned peaches, sighhhh. My mom used to do those. They're the ones I wrote into "Clinging to the Truth" and I MISS them.

I've never tried a caramel sauce with it; the recipe is sweet enough as is.

Canning fruit is a snap - if you have a car and can get to an orchard. I can see you trying to haul a half-bushel box of peaches home on the bus. :-)
