vr_trakowskiYesterday was definitely NOT my day. Last night I pulled my laptop out of its drawer, plugged it in, and booted it up...only to be greeted with a sign telling me that its cooling system wasn't working, shut down immediately and take in for service. A cautious poke-and-dust at its interior yielded the same thing, so I wasn't able to get online or anything else.
The thing's over two years old at this point, and is already threatening to break at the hinge. But I don't have money to fix it right now, let alone get a new one. *sigh* I'm hoping that when I try it again tonight it works; if not, I'll set it aside until I can deal with it. I'm not even sure it's worth fixing, except that without it I have nothing but my work computer.
The nice thing is that I backed up my files to my iPod hard drive Sunday night. *grin* So I'm up to date on that at least.

Date: 2006-07-18 03:27 pm (UTC)Dell had a laptop (it's kinda crap low RAM & moderately sized HD) for $495 if you're really desperate.
At this point, the laptop functions as an accessory for traveling & as a second computer for the house when we're both wanting to be on, so I'm trying to justify how much to spend on it. Don't see the point in spending a lot, but don't want anything that won't be worth turning on.
And I had taken all the TiVo files to catch up on my watching on the trip, so they made the trip to KS for nothing.
