Twelfth Night

This one dawned on me yesterday. Easily rated G. CSI, GSR, vague spoilers through the current episode (whatever the heck it is). Thanks to
cincoflex for her stamp of approval!
He’d finally figured out why Greg had been so pissed, though it had taken him a while; Grissom wasn’t given to in-depth analysis of his CSIs’ emotional states on a day-to-day basis.
However, he was aware when that animosity abruptly vanished. It was just before shift started, the night after Grissom got back from his unprecedented Christmas vacation. The night shift supervisor taking two weeks off was unheard of, but he had leave time to burn and had offered no explanations.
Now he was settling back into routine, passing out assignments and not looking forward to all the paperwork that had waited for his return. Catherine and Nick gave him the usual “have a nice Christmas?” greetings and it was Warrick’s night off, but Greg remained silent.
It was the quality of the silence that was different.
Nick and Catherine had a homicide uptown and left together; Greg lingered. When Grissom looked up from the coffee he was pouring, he gave Greg an inquiring look.
“Is she coming back, or are you leaving?” Greg asked quietly.
Grissom let the corner of his mouth turn up. “She’s coming back. In a while.”
Greg let out a breath, and dipped his head in a nod. “Good,” he said, and walked out.
Grissom put the pot back in the coffee machine and glanced down at his left hand, wrapped around the mug. The gold band on his third finger was still a touch unfamiliar. His smile widened.
That’s why you’re a CSI, Greg.
End.

Date: 2007-12-22 05:04 pm (UTC)I hope that the holidays are good for you. I've been baking up a storm to give to some of my friends as Christmas gifts. This morning I walked into the kitchen to discover that Bartok, one of the 8 cats that lives with me, had decided to eat the tops off of a dosen dinner rolls that were cooling on the table. I told him that Santa was going to leave him a lump of coal in his tocking but he looked less than impressed. I swear that he let out a large burp and wandered off to take a nap. Needless to say I had to bake another batch.
Anyway, Merry Christmas and a Happy New year, anne

Merry Christmas!

Date: 2008-01-02 12:07 am (UTC)Oh, review, right... i love this. I love Greg. I may not have seen the hostility thing first hand yet (being in the UK) but i can imagine Griss marrying Sara would make him more ok with everything.
Great little story. *Hugs Greg* :D
