It had been just a scrap of conversation, Jill in PR asking Pepper her remedy for a broken heart, and he wasn’t even sure why he remembered overhearing her answer--“Baking.”
But two weeks after he came back, when Tony was starting to wonder if he’d imagined Pepper’s relief when he’d walked off the plane, he opened his walk-in freezer to find lunch, and halted.
The shelves were overflowing. Fascinated, Tony read label after label in Pepper’s neat hand, three months’ worth of cookies of every description.
His smile trembled a little as he took one out to thaw.
