Simone found her husband in the kitchen dicing glacé cherries, and paused to admire his sturdy form before speaking. “Breaking your New Year’s resolution at last? The children won’t let you live it down.”
He looked up, eyes twinkling. “On the contrary, my dear.” He popped one morsel in her mouth as she joined him.
She savored the sweetness, but still frowned. “Al, I know this is an Advent tradition in your family, but there’s no such thing as vegan fruitcake.”
He chuckled, waving the paring knife at the paper on the counter. “You can find anything on the Internet.”
