Oh I have no doubt he has emotions and hormones both...but I'm not as convinced as some people that he's particularly good at recognizing when they're interfering with his life, much less knowing how to productively ACT on them (or not as is appropriate).

I lean pretty firmly to the likely asperbergers camp, honestly... he is SO like another person I know well who has it.

Oh yes, very true! Heck, they COULD do it then, if they didn't mind the scandal, but they aren't the right personality types.

My suspicion is if they did it at all it would be under veil of TOTAL secrecy. Holmes already shows a tendency to cripple himself with guilt if WATSON is endangered by their association. Don't even get me started on if he and Watson both were dealing with the same in regards to MARY...

I dunno--seems to me his guilt would be more because any harm to Mary would hurt Watson. But to each their interpretation! :D

My suspicion is given time, Holmes would come to regard Mary highly as well, if maybe not to the same obvious degree. She doesn't strike me from the movie as a person it would be easy TO dislike if she were no threat to his relationship with Watson. But you're right, it would be a double sting... his guilt over any innocent being hurt in connection to him plus his guilt over the way it also hurt his best friend.
