[livejournal.com profile] trialia  was doing it, and I had so much fun I had to do it myself.  *grin*

Pick 15 of your ships and write down a quote for each of them. Have your f-list guess the ships without using Google/IMDB.  Mind you, some of these are severely obscure.  Some are books, others are TV/movies.  One is fanfic, because it is my OTP in that fandom.

1.  [X]: What am I fit for here?  I know how to carry a rider in battle.  I can dance the Greek dance, a little.  That is all.  Unless you count my mastery of tavern-crawling.
[Y]: You’re worth a little more than that.  I trained you once.  I could train you again if I had to.
[X]: You wouldn’t need to.  I remember everything.
[Y]: Not as a horse, idiot.  As a man.
Khamsin/Hasan and Zamaniyah, A Wind in Cairo, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] jeanniemac

2.  [X]: [Y], it’s the safest thing for all of us. You gotta believe me. Promise me you’ll go!
[Y]: If you’ll promise me...you’ll come back.

3. [X]: [Y], must you believe you are about to die in order to bring yourself to kiss a lady?
[Y]: My deepest apologies, [X].  It won’t happen again.
[X]: I’m very sorry to hear that, Castillar.
Cazaril and Betriz, The Curse of Chalion, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] trialia

4. [X]: [Y], I don't know what will happen now.
[Y]: You must promise me one thing; that you'll share it with me. Whatever happens, whatever comes.
[X]: Whatever happens, whatever comes...know that I love you.
Vincent and Catherine, Beauty and the Beast TV show, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] snowydragon1776

5. [X]: [Y].  I would love to marry you.  Don’t say anything.  I am sixteen years old and I have a brain full of turnips.  I don’t know when people marry in this country, but in mine they do it at twenty, or later.
[Y]: I’m fond of turnips.
Ruth and Randolph, The Whim of the Dragon, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] jeanniemac

6. [X]: I swear that kid gets more and more like you every day.
[Y]: You mean more attractive, sweet and devilishly charming?
[X]: No. He's driving me crazy.
Rick and Evy, The Mummy Returns, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] snowydragon1776

7. [X]: But the only crime this bunch committed was to fall in love with you.  Death seemed too cruel a penalty for that.
[Y]: Beguiled.  I don’t think mice have brains enough to fall in love.
[X]: I never noticed as it took brains.

8. [X]: Oh, I love it when you dress up.
[Y]: Well, you know, whatever it takes to get some time with you.
Grissom and Sara, CSI, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mingsmommy

9. [X]: I told him…that you poured out honor like a fountain, all around you.
[Y]: That’s weird.  I don’t feel full of honor, or anything else, except maybe confusion.
[X]: Naturally not.  Fountains keep nothing for themselves.
Aral and Cordelia, Shards of Honor, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] trialia

10. [X]: Sir? I'd like you to take the helm, please. I need this man to tear all my clothes off.
[Y]: Work, work, work...
Zoe and Wash, Firefly, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mingsmommy

11.  [X]: Still moving in?
[Y]: You could say that. I want to set it up as a studio, but I haven't had much of a chance to move the furniture around and get things put away. I want to get it just right, and because I'm worried I won't, I . . . haven't started.
[X]: You know what? We—you and I-- have to stop hesitating and take a few chances. We just do.
Nathan and Jones, Along Came Jones, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] cincoflex

12. [X]: Well, we’re not adults, but we’re not children, either.  Far from it.  But what difference does it make?  We’re here, in this moment.  And in this moment I love you , and you love me but you won’t say it.
[Y]: Then I’ll say it, because it’s what I feel.  I love you, [X].  I do.  And I’ll write you all summer, just the way Greg and Leslie have been writing all this time, for nine months and three still to go.  Yes, I do love you--

13. [X]: And you're not afraid?
[Y]: Fear is based on ignorance. I'd rather try to understand. Understand who you are...what you are.
[X]: You're a unique woman.
[Y]: No. I'm a scientist.
Nick and Natalie, Forever Knight, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] celtae

14. [X]: Do you like this step?
[Y]: I like them all.
[X]: Do you always dance like this? Do you always make your partner feel as if he had danced with you all his life?
[Y]: It is--because we played together in the garden.

15: [X]: And so it’s done.
[Y]: Is it really?  What about all the things you wanted to see changed, all the things in the Seelie Court?
[X]: I’d intended to plant a seed or two, and wait to see what grew there.  Things grow slowly in Faerie, my beloved.
[Y]: So you’re just going to see what happens?
[X]: I don’t know.  I’d thought in terms of seeds, you see, and never dreamed that what I had loosed on the Court was a madwoman with a crowbar.
[Y]: What, me?  I’m flattered.

heh, well I think that number 11 is Justinia Jones and Nathan Gardner, because the words look *awfully* familiar!

Number 15 is from one of my favorite books, The War for the Oaks... Characters are Eddi McCandry and the Phouka.

Most of the others that people have gotten are likewise from favorite books and shows :-)

Very good indeed! I didn't think anyone would get that one. Have you read Bone Dance?

Read Bone Dance within the last 8 months or so... I remember thinking the first time I read it (way back) that it was rather like deLint crossed with Gibson. The big secret was pretty deftly handled, I didn't see it coming :-)

I think Bone Dance is my favorite. I totally missed the secret until it was revealed. I wish Ms. Bull would write more in that universe; I have a certain fondness for the lesser-known post-apocalyptics.

You know she's on LJ, right?

Thanks!

Of her more recent books, I can recommend Territory, if you like Western flavor to your fantasy... It's built around Doc Holliday and the Earps.

I read it and wasn't thrilled...I guess I like her earlier stuff better for some reason. I should try it again, though.

Well,
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<iterritory</i>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

Well, <iTerritory</i> is a bit darker in tone and way more subtle than her earlier works... I think I may have read it originally at one sitting, but haven't had a chance to reread it, and that may be exactly because of its tone. God knows I make time to reread my favorite comfort books (Bujold features heavily in that lineup :-).

I know what you mean, and Bujold's on mine too. :P I read the one Ms. Bull co-authored with Steven Brust, and while it's really well done, again it didn't catch me. But then I have trouble with Brust.

Damn you! All our books are still packed, so I can't look up character names, but I can tell you that #1 is A Wind in Cairo by Judith Tarr and #5 is Whim of the Dragon by Pamela Dean. I just can't remember character names...

Oh, wow. I recognize one out of all of that. Guess which? My fantasy/sci fi reading has been neglected, I think. I don't recognize most of the books listed.

CSI? :P

Not all the books I chose are f/sf, but most of them ARE obscure--though I recommend them all, of course. They may all still be in print, even.

If I had a decent library system, I might even had been able to find them. I'll have to check with the intra-library loan to see what they have.

Heh, fortunately, The Whim of the Dragon just came back IN to print; before that, it was one of the rarest books I've ever read, and I have stuff that's older than my grandparents. But it's the third in a series, start with The Secret Country if that one piques your interest.
