And yes it's slightly creepy, but I take it within its timeframe when perceptions of seduction and dating were not quite as politically correct as they are now. I've heard a few versions where the girl's comments make it clear that she is not as reluctant as her words imply, and that they both know it's a forgone conclusion that she's going to stay.
