Alas, in my less than humble opinion the novelization didn't live up to its early promise.  Far too much of it wasn't in the film at all; I understand why it's done, but it makes it more of an alternate history than an actual narration.  Also, I think the differences are in favor of the film--but then, it is an intensely visual movie. 

There are other changes, but I won't spoil.

The only great one I've read in recent years was The Abyss, because the author had enough clout to hold off the publishers until filming was more or less complete. It actually MATCHES what went on on the screen. But that's the exception...
