Alas, in my less than humble opinion the novelization didn't live up to its early promise.  Far too much of it wasn't in the film at all; I understand why it's done, but it makes it more of an alternate history than an actual narration.  Also, I think the differences are in favor of the film--but then, it is an intensely visual movie. 

There are other changes, but I won't spoil.

Depends on how much you enjoy novelizations in general...I'd vote for the movie, though. After all, you can always get the book later if you change your mind.

I'm not sure I've ever read a novelization that really stood out as great. Sometimes they offer an insight into a scene or two, but it seems more likely they have stuff that got cut from the final draft of the movie. And usually cut for a good reason.

The only great one I've read in recent years was The Abyss, because the author had enough clout to hold off the publishers until filming was more or less complete. It actually MATCHES what went on on the screen. But that's the exception...

I was weak and stupid and read the novel BEFORE I saw the movie. I saw it in a bookstore and bought it but I held out -not- reading it for about a week. After that, my willpower ran out and I read the whole thing in one night. I did like the ending better in the book. The man-bonding dialog between Rhodey and Tony and then the kiss between Pepper and Tony, that was also interrupted. Maybe I just wanted it all to last longer than it did in the movie. ... Alas, that is what fanfic is for I suppose.

Heh, I avoided getting the book until now for just that reason! I preferred the movie's ending, but I know others agree with you. Why can't we get a nice three-hour like Titanic or something? :P
