Alas, in my less than humble opinion the novelization didn't live up to its early promise.  Far too much of it wasn't in the film at all; I understand why it's done, but it makes it more of an alternate history than an actual narration.  Also, I think the differences are in favor of the film--but then, it is an intensely visual movie. 

There are other changes, but I won't spoil.

Heh, I avoided getting the book until now for just that reason! I preferred the movie's ending, but I know others agree with you. Why can't we get a nice three-hour like Titanic or something? :P
