vr_trakowski: (Down to Sleep)
I meant to put this in the author's notes for Down to Sleep, but totally forgot.  :P  In Chapter 9, Ronnie (the Second) brings Sara a journal article that announces a way to extract mitochondrial DNA from hair.  It's not relevant to the case, really, but the news intrigued me enough that I wanted to mention it.  Until recently, hair was thought to be just about devoid of cells unless the root was still attached, but it turns out that the core of a strand of hair contains plenty.

Given all the CSI stories, canon and fan, that balance on such details, I found the news interesting.  The link isn't to the journal article itself, but someone discussing it, and what further delights me is the mention of something else--cloning extinct animals.  The hair DNA is apparently much purer than that found in tissue samples and would be easier to work with.

There you are.  Belated trivia, but it amuses me.

A while back I decided it would be interesting to do a commentary on Green Laurel, so here's my indulgence.  Hopefully I can manage the LJ cuts well enough.

Gotta rec these.  Attention [livejournal.com profile] boubabe , [livejournal.com profile] cincoflex  and I kind of collaborated on Digest--I'm responsible for some of the dialogue, at least.

And last night she posted Folly, which is for adults only.  *grin*  Sherlock Holmes isn't all about the slash, you know.

It amuses me deeply to reflect that somewhere today, in another entirely fictional branch of time, Warrick lives, Natalie Davis never existed, and Grissom and Sara are getting married

I'm still pretty proud of that one.  *grin*

This appears to be a new author, but goodness knows if they were writing somewhere else previously.  The skill certainly implies it.  Step One by Aaron Cronin is a quick Iron Man story that manages to be both funny and touching at the same time--and that addresses an issue that often goes ignored.  Very clever, and a read that leaves me wanting more.

First off, I want to recommend [livejournal.com profile] cincoflex's new Pseudonym to all you Happy Hogan (or Copra Cabana) fans out there. Even taciturn chauffeurs need love, and she supplies it perfectly!

Second, she's also mostly responsible for Feast, which is an Easter story only for the eggs as it misses the original point entirely. But it was fun to write. Please note, I am resurrecting my personal rating of Unabashedly Sentimental for this one. Previously unknown levels of fluff. You Have Been Warned.

Now, do I bother going in to work this afternoon, or not?

Ohhh, I've been waiting to rec this one!  [livejournal.com profile] cincoflex's stunner Clandestine, which will break your heart in the most bittersweet fashion.  Be warned: it is  Iron Man, Obadiah/OC (and what an OC!), and most definitely adult.  Yummy, yummy, yummy.

I'm pleased to boast that my Website has now passed a million hits, present total standing at 1,000,063.  Wheee!  I'm sure the total is higher, since the site was up for a while before I put in the counter, but it's still nice to have the visual confirmation, as it were.

I figured I'd pass the million mark sometime this year, but I wasn't expecting it until next month at the soonest.  Light in the Mirror has been up for 4.36 years, according to Freeservers, which puts it at sometime in 2004, I guess--I can't remember precisely.  I do know it was after I started posting CSI fanfic on Fanfiction.net, so that seems to match.

Thank you so much to everyone who has gone to my site to read my stories all this time.  I know, it's only fic, but it means something to me.  *beam*  Thank you for your patience and feedback and recommendations and just for coming back!
