Jul. 12th, 2011 11:35 pmOkay, I can forgive them the Metro not looking right, and the signs that say "Subway", but it doesn't go to Frederick!
Not to mention, there ain't no palm trees around here, guys, sheeeeesh.
The Raiders of the Lost Ark scene at the end, though, was amusing.
I admit, Rossi's growing on me--he's toned down the arrogance somewhat, and the uneven eye thing is of interest. But I am watching, and I can't see anything more than friendship between him and Prentiss...yet.

Okay, that was weird
Jul. 12th, 2011 08:16 pmIn a good way, though. Roadkill has as a guest Dale Midkiff, who has been one of my weak spots since, oh, 1993 or so. Not only that, his character has the same first name as the one he played in the incomparable Plymouth. He's been elsewhere, too--one of those very good actors who just never got a big break--but for me he will always be Darien Lambert and Gil Eaton. Such a voice he has.
And my word, but Hotch has guts. Talk about using the weapon to hand...
That said, it was a pretty dumb episode, I thought. The two people killed on-screen, when chased by a truck, ran straight away instead of going behind a barrier or onto undriveable ground? Honestly! You get maybe one pass for panic, but that was ridiculous.

First impression of Emily Prentiss: too eager to please for someone of her age and status. Fortunately she got a grip fairly quickly; I like her well enough now. Could be attributed to the development of a new character in an established show.
First impression of David Rossi: arrogant bastard. Hopefully this will change.
I certainly don't miss Gideon. And if one speeds up the theme music, it still sounds good--almost X-Files, in a way.

Wow, that was a humdinger
Jun. 25th, 2011 01:52 pmJust woke from a nap that was mostly preparation for an upcoming zombie outbreak, à la Feed, but with mix-ins like ancient Egyptian figurines, a garbage truck, Jayne from Firefly (briefly), an iPad, and several of the cast from Criminal Intent. I don't know if an old Victorian house was really the best pick as a refuge, but it seemed like a good idea at the time (serious modifications were being planned) and there were going to be a lot of people staying there, including my mother.
And Hotch would make an excellent leader for that kind of thing, as well as the sideline he was doing of rescuing a young woman from a pretty nasty situation. Reid was in charge of finding the secret passages in the walls, which are something that crop up every so often in my dreams, but I don't know how he would feel about the kids following him around.
Having the dream then shift to seeing Silver decide not to take on the rat in my apartment was therefore somewhat of an anticlimax, even if the rat was as big as she was and looked more like a white Rex than anything else.

I've now watched eleven episodes of Criminal Minds' first season (as well as a few others here and there), and it has finally dawned on my why Hotch is pushing my buttons--besides his own undeniable charm, of course.
He reminds me strongly of Tom Daniels from Prey. Not so much physically, though they are both dark-haired, but in seriousness and intensity, and in having painful pasts. And in wearing really sharp suits. It makes the rare smiles all the more powerful.
It also amuses me no end to see Hotch deferring to Garcia, but that's entirely separate. *grin*

Jun. 10th, 2011 07:15 pmThis is degenerating into stream-of-consciousness triviality, but I do like to look back on these things on occasion.
