Well, that's that.  My current job ends July 25th.  My bosses are pushing for a long-shot extension through some time in September, but I doubt they'll get it.  USAJobs and I are getting much better acquainted.

Two random notes:
1. I've been too deep in OUaT fandom if I find myself dreaming of Rumpelstiltskin and Belle.  And tea.
2. Watching the monitor reflection of my hands typing is interesting but slightly confusing.  I have fat hands.

Yeah, been a while. Personal stuff (nobody died) I am not at liberty to discuss in a public forum, etc. New glasses I'm not sure I like. Tax refund. Lots of books. Finding out I don't care for the Blade Runner soundtrack, such as it is. Having to temporarily move two offices' worth of paperwork--my ex-boss has a Francis Crick book autographed to him*, and it looks like he left it in a puddle at some point. *sigh*

The quirkiest thing that has happened lately is that I purchased (among other things, thanks for the birthday presents [personal profile] cincoflex!) two CDs. One is a re-press from a vinyl album, Cleo Laine's and James Galway's Sometimes When We Touch. This is an album I grew up with. It includes the fantastic Anyone Can Whistle, which is something of a personal joke for me. It also includes How, Where, When?, which is an interpretation of Pachelbel's Canon & Gigue in D (yes, that one).

The other is Pachelbel's Greatest Hit, which I got in part because the Mutts illustrations amused me. It's a collection of different versions of that canon. Guess what one of them is...

It's almost as good a conjunction as the time I was recording Blake's 7 episodes over old Doctor Who eps, missed the one where Colin Baker guest-starred and left a space for it, then realised/realized/ahscrewiti'mwritingtoomuchHPfic that the Doctor Who ep left in the space was the Colin Baker one that Paul Darrow guest-starred in.

Also, high blood pressure makes my dreams much more vivid and long, but makes it hard to sleep deeply.

This concludes the random update for the evening.

*Not that Crick wasn't involved in dodgy research, but it's still a bit lust-inducing, at least for a science bibliophile.

Darn it.

It was sleeting until just now.  I suppose I have to go to work tomorrow now.  *bleah*

Friends having rough times, work trying to make me cry, parental units refusing to recognize a legitimate "no".  *sigh*  I hate being stressed, and I hate worse that other people are more stressed.  I want a backrub and a day's worth of naps, and maybe a swim in a nice empty pool while I'm at it.

On the other hand, Silver seems to have recovered from her respiratory infection, which frankly I didn't think was going to happen.  So that's something.

My boss had me, as usual, help set up the more-or-less-monthly birthday lunch at work--book the meeting room and collect the money for the subs/chips/drinks/cake.  There are several birthdays this month, including one person who is, I believe, turning 50 this year, so in his case they were trying to make it a surprise.  The usual format for the celebrants is that they don't pay for lunch and a card is passed around beforehand for signatures.

Well and good.  I was expecting a card myself, no biggie, since my boss keeps an eye on such things.  And Dr. L was surprised when he came in, certainly.  They brought out a bunch of helium balloons for him, even.  And then threw me for an utter loop by giving me a bunch too.  *laughter*  Because it was a decade-birthday for me as well.  They'd even had our names put on the cake.

There was much amusement at how they'd managed to slip that part past me, especially since they'd brought the balloons in right past me, shrouded in plastic bags--I knew what they were, of course, I just didn't know that one bunch was for me.

It was really nice of them.  *grin*

In the kitchenette I use at work is a magnetic whiteboard, fringed with flyers that are mostly several years old.  Someone put a bunch of those magnetic alphabet letters up on it, the kind people buy for their kindergartners, and I added a handful of fridge poetry words a while back.  Then I bought more magnetic letters because they were cheap at Target.  Usage varies.

Recently, out of sheer boredom while waiting for my lunch to heat--4.5 minutes is a long time when I don't have anything to read--I started spelling out Jabberwocky, one line per day due to letter limitations.  I got as far as line 3 (All mimsy) and came in to find someone had put up most of line 5 (Beware the Jabberwock).

Amused, I completed the line, reasoning that I should encourage whoever was playing along (and ignoring whoever keeps putting up "Red Sox" underneath).  Yesterday I put up "The jaws that bite", having to wait to complete the line due to running out of the letter T.  Today I found out that someone had added "bandersnatch" underneath.

I put up a cheat sheet.  If we're going to do this, we can by golly do it in proper order.

My boss (one of them) just came in to wish me a happy Administrative Professionals' Day and promise to take me out to lunch on Friday.  It quite boggled me, because though I've had the title of "secretary" for going on two years now, it never occurred to me to apply that sort of recognition to myself--not that I knew that was today anyway.

I love her dearly, I appreciate the gesture, and I kind of wish she hadn't thought of it, because that sort of recognition makes me uncomfortable.  But I can hardly refuse.

It's just one of those things that shifts my perception slightly.  It's probably good for me.

*boggle*  What a strange, strange world it is when there is a scientific journal entitled "Calcified Tissue International".
